The Rise of High-End Richard Mille Replicas: A Market Overview

In the past two years, Rolex and Richard Mille (RM) have dominated the replica watch scene. While Rolex remains a timeless favorite, Richard Mille replicas have surged in popularity, with more factories now producing high-quality versions.

The Evolution of RM Replicas

Five years ago, KV Factory was one of the few makers of RM replicas, though their quality was mid-range by today’s standards. Later, ZF Factory entered the market with their RM35-02, which quickly became the best replica available at the time (I reviewed their V3 edition here). Since then, ZF has refined the RM35-02 further, raising its price but maintaining its status as the top choice.

Other factories like T+ and Sonic also tried competing, initially pricing their RMs high. However, they couldn’t match the quality of ZF and BBR, leading to price drops—and in T+’s case, disappearance.

Now, APS Factory has joined the race, shocking many with their recent RM055 release. Given APS and ZF’s long-standing collaboration, this move isn’t entirely surprising. But how does APS’s RM055 compare? It surpasses ZF’s version in several key areas.

APS vs. ZF: The RM055 Showdown

ZF previously offered the RM055 in white ceramic and NTPT, equipped with a super clone RMUL2 movement. APS currently only produces the NTPT version, but with notable upgrades:

  1. Movement Finishing
    • Both use the same super clone RMUL2 (V2), but APS applies a satin finish on the movement plates, making them look closer to genuine.
    • ZF’s movement plates appear too glossy from certain angles.
    • APS also improved a small detail on the movement’s left corner—visible in side-by-side comparisons.
  2. Case & Build Quality
    • The carbon fiber texture on APS’s case is more refined.
    • APS’s case is thinner than ZF’s.
    • The rubber strap is more comfortable than BBR’s.
    • The titanium clasp features removable screws, unlike ZF’s fixed ones.

Which RM Replica Should You Buy?

  • RM35-01 → BBR Factory
  • RM055 NTPT → APS Factory
  • RM35-02 → ZF Factory

APS’s RM055 is a major step forward, especially for those who prioritize movement accuracy and case finishing. For now, APS leads in the RM055 category, while ZF remains the king of the RM35-02.
